With all the marketing and tactics that are used in search engine optimization, it is sometimes helpful to pause and think like a search engine. What is the goal of a search engine? To put it simply, they are trying to provide you with the information you are looking for based on your search. Search engines get smarter and smarter and even over the past 5 years, 3 years, or even 1 year, you can see significant improvement in the sophistication of Google and others.
Have you ever read the mission statement of Google?
Google’s mission: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
Organizing the world’s info is no easy task, so they must have some pretty smart people working for them. This means that tricking search engines with poor SEO tactics is very hard if not impossible. SEO company’s will make claims of first page rankings no matter what. BUT, when you think about it there is know way to get a site about t-shirts to appear when someone searches for a pizza shop. The two are just not related and search engines want to provide the best information on what people are searching for. In addition, white-hat SEO practices are no longer the suggested standard, they are the requirement. Remember, you can not trick search engines. They are smarter than you.
The primary goal of an internet marketing company and particularly search engine optimization is to help search engines understand the content of your website. Let me say that again but differently… your website needs to be clear for search engines to understand so they can place it in the correct search queries.
So remember, when you are generating content, building links, and doing all the other activities involved in SEO, it is sometimes helpful to just stop and think like a search engine.
